【松山英樹、今季最上位の好位置に浮上！優勝争いに名乗り】
米男子ゴルフ「ロケット・クラシック」2日目（27日）、松山英樹が鮮やかな“66”をマークし、通算11アンダーで8位に急浮上。首位と3打差で、最終日に優勝争いが視界に入ってきました。初日は26位からのスタート。10番で5.5メートルのバーディーパットを沈めると、14番（パー5）でもバーディーを奪取。さらに16番から怒涛の3連続バーディー。最終9番（パー3）では3パットのボギーを叩いたものの、上位進出に成功しました。
試合後、ゴルフネットワークのインタビューでは「体の痛みがかなり取れて、ゴルフに集中できている」と語りつつ、「最後の3ホールのパットはもったいなかった」と悔しさもにじませました。「久しぶりにいい位置にいるので、しっかり準備したい」と最終日に向けて意気込みを見せました。
また、久常涼も5バーディー・ノーボギーの67で10アンダーとし、23位で5試合連続予選通過。金谷拓実は68で通算8アンダー、36位。大西魁斗は1イーグル・3バーディー・1ダブルボギーで69、通算7アンダーの49位で決勝進出。両選手ともに米ツアーでの4戦連続予選落ちから脱出しました。一方、星野陸也は2アンダー・118位で予選敗退となりました。
首位には6勝のクリス・カークに加え、アンドリュー・パットナム、フィリップ・ノールズの3人が14アンダーで並んでいます。13アンダーでジャクソン・スーバー、12アンダーで南アフリカのアルドリッチ・ポッチーターが続いています。松山の逆転劇に期待が高まります！
Hideki Matsuyama made a strong move in the second round of the Rocket Mortgage Classic, carding a brilliant 66 with 7 birdies and 1 bogey, putting him in 8th place at 11 under par—just 3 shots off the lead. Matsuyama, who began the day tied for 26th, showed a return to form that fans have been waiting for, especially after struggling with physical issues earlier in the season. He kicked off his round with a confident 5.5-meter birdie on the 10th hole, followed by another on the 14th (par 5), then caught fire from the 16th hole with three consecutive birdies. A misstep came at the 9th (par 3), where he three-putted for bogey, but the momentum carried him into the top 10.
In a post-round interview with Golf Network, Matsuyama expressed satisfaction with his overall game: “The pain has subsided, so now I can really focus on my swing and my game. My putting was good overall, but those last few putts didn’t feel right.” Looking ahead, he added, “I’m finally in a strong position again, so I’ll be well-prepared for the final round.”
Fellow Japanese golfer Ryo Hisatsugu also impressed, firing a bogey-free 67 to move up to 23rd place at 10 under par. He continues his streak by qualifying for his fifth consecutive tournament on the PGA Tour. Takumi Kanaya followed with a clean 68 to sit at 8 under, tied for 36th, while Kaito Onishi delivered a 69 featuring an eagle, three birdies, and a double bogey, placing him at 7 under in 49th.
Rikuya Hoshino, however, missed the cut after finishing at 2 under despite improving slightly with a second-round 71. At the top of the leaderboard, Chris Kirk, Andrew Putnam, and Philip Knowles are tied at 14 under par, with Jackson Suber (13 under) and South Africa’s Aldrich Potgieter (12 under) closely behind.
